‘Let’s Paint the Town Green’

7 June 2024

We are celebrating the great work that Greening Taupō and Kids Greening Taupō do in our community by ‘Greening Taupō’ again! Join us on Friday 7 June 2024 and together, let’s paint the town GREEN!

Celebrations will include a community Arbor Day Planting Event with support from Taupo District Council. Join us between 9.30 am and 1 pm on Tauhara Road (along the back of the golf course) to plant native trees, participate in the range of free activities and enjoy a free sausage or soup. Special guests will be there to entertain and educate, along with a huge range of conservation experts and local businesses running free fun activities. This planting is part of the long-term vision of creating native corridors into Taupō to bring native wildlife to urban Taupō and link up the remaining stands of native bush.

Get your staff to dress in green, decorate your shop/business in green, and collect donations for Greening Taupō and Kids Greening Taupō. Schools and ECE centres are encouraged to have a Dress up in Green’ mufti day and to collect gold coin donations. Participate in our Arbor Day Community Planting Day, or focus on environmental/conservation activities at your business or school for the day.

All money raised will go towards allowing Greening Taupō and Kids Greening Taupō to continue with the great work that they do. Together they have planted over 250,000 native trees in Taupō so far with the community, with many more planting days planned for 2024.  They also provide free environmental education, events, and teacher professional development to kindergartens and schools in Taupō.

We need your help to reach our fundraising goal!

We want to raise awareness of all that is Greening Taupō but we also want to raise some $$.

Make a donation using the handy donorbox on this page if you can or contact us for a donation bucket and flyer to collect donations the week leading up to Greening Taupō Day. Whatever you can spare or collect is gratefully received - it all helps!

Check out all the good fun that was had in previous years at Greening Taupō Day

Get involved!

Our goal is to get the whole town behind Greening Taupō Day - so whether you are a business or a school / early childhood centre there are plenty of ways to connect with the celebrations!

Art Competition

Draw what Aotearoa New Zealand looked like when the first people arrived on its shores…

It was a land of thick native forest and beautiful wetlands full of birds, lizards, bugs, and tiny bats (our only land mammal). Our country had many special animals found nowhere else in the world. The apex predators were huge birds such as hokioi (Haast Eagle) and kērangi (Forbes Harrier) and our unique species evolved to avoid them.

By restoring the native forests and wetlands, and doing predator control, we can bring many of these unique species back to Taupō.

Competition open to all school-aged students. All types of art mediums welcome.
